YES GIANTESS

There's a kind of experience I think every music fan has had. I call it the "bad ears": It's a kind of one-on-one Wyatting, and it's what happens when the assumptions you make flip over and leave you the one vulnerable. It's when you're with a friend, and you play them some music you like and you want them to like too. They don't say anything. And suddenly you're hearing it with the bad ears: Every pretension, every flaw in the music becomes utterly obvious to you. The lines you thought were terrific are revealed as facile. The lines you thought were lovably dumb are chasms of embarrassment. The song ends. You want to vanish. And your friend smiles and says "Yeah, that was good," and then it's their turn.

First of all - go download Little Dragon’s original “Twice” from their self-titled album. It has been one of my most played songs for about two months.

Secondly, I sifted through a bunch of very bad remixes to find this pretty good one. It’s the Aaron Jerome Remix. I sort of feel like you need to listen to the original first before you can really sink into this remix, but I can’t force you to do anything. Do whatever you want, the song is yours now.

How Explosions Became Commonplace in Kids’ Branding.
In April, Kraft launched their new Cheddar Explosion Macaroni & Cheese … and to promote the product, Kraft sponsored the demolition of Texas Stadium.… Blasts and shocks are especially common on products geared toward kids…. “We’re genetically programmed to be attracted to disturbances of the norm,” says Thomas Hine, a design historian and author of The Total Package. “Just look at movies and television—we love explosions.”
It’s true. The only thing kids love more than explosive diarrhea is a controlled demolition. [thanks, s]

"The Imperial Phase" Poptimist on Pitchfork

This article is really interesting. It’s essentially about that grace period when an artist reaches the “I can do whatever I want to do - and people want me to do it” apex of their career.

Also - wasn’t Queen fucking awesome? Freddy Mercury. I’ve just been going through all my old Queen records this weekend. Totally insane! Best of the best.

Have a great weekend!
