"The Imperial Phase" Poptimist on Pitchfork →
This article is really interesting. It’s essentially about that grace period when an artist reaches the “I can do whatever I want to do - and people want me to do it” apex of their career.
Also - wasn’t Queen fucking awesome? Freddy Mercury. I’ve just been going through all my old Queen records this weekend. Totally insane! Best of the best.
Have a great weekend!

A Few Words from Joey (uh oh...)
So this is a bit late, but there was a snow storm in DC. Two snow storms. Unfortunately, the 930 Club show with La Roux was cancelled because of… well, this:
That’s after spending the night shoveling and cleaning every hour or so.
Luckily, the show has been postponed to July 25th when the sun will be shining and the only ice will be in our mixed drinks.
In other van news, we had...

Our first music video. Enjoy!
Montreal was a serious mind bender. I don’t think we’ve ever played for so many people. The crowd would best be described as “ravenous.” They were going nuts from the opening DJ all the way to the last note of La Roux’s encore - then everyone stuck around and partied at the venue until late. We spent the day rummaging around downtown Montreal and found an amazing...

Quebec City. The Imperial was amazing. Massive venue, more like an old theatre really. We had a long trip and arrived roughly three hours late but still got it together in time for the show. Afterwards we went next door with the La Roux dudes (and ladies) for drinks. The staff of the venue showed up too and we all BRO’D OUT. Many terrible one-liners were exchanged; what is Beethoven’s...
The airport in Chicago is one of the best airports ever. It just seems really modern and efficient (as far as airports go.) Also, there is a little booth that sells popcorn fused with caramel and various kinds of nuts. So, that’s super awesome.
Lincoln Hall is a newish venue in Chicago operated by the same guys who run Schubas. It’s great. Like, really great. They served us huge burgers...

We played at Santos with Jessica 6, Body Language, and Brahms - all of whom were great. The show was put on by the lovely people at Cantora Records and Big Live. They filmed the show in HD Disney Digital 3D, so we should have some footage relatively soon. Chase also printed a million t-shirts for the La Roux tour, which starts on Sunday. What a trooper! We cannot express how excited we are to...
Four instruments or less.
Zach and I had a recently had a conversation about songs with great production. He had heard from someone reputable that in a well-produced track, there shouldn’t really be any more than three “featured” instruments at a given time. As a producer/home-recordist/songwriter, there is always the temptation to fill a mix up with random shit. I start adding beeps and boops to tracks...
